Grow Your Own Vegetables: It's cold outside now, but there's still plenty to be done to prepare for the year ahead.
Start planning: Have a look at our large range of seeds and start planning what you want to grow.
Clear away old crops: It's a good time to pick over the plot and remove any old, decaying crops. Throw the debris on the compost heap, or if it is diseased, burn it or dispose in some other way.
Get Digging : When it is dry enough, get out and start digging it over the soil. Spread muck and green manure over the soil and dig it in. The more you can do now, the better the soil will be in spring.
Broad beans, Brussels sprouts, early summer cabbage, calabrese, cauliflowers, leeks, onions, peas, radish, shallots, spinach and turnips are suitable for starting under cover during late winter. It is sometimes better to buy plants in spring rather than take the trouble and cost of raising your own early transplants. |
